“This statement was also denied by Rio Ferdinand”

1NEWSMichael Owen state that Liverpool are the best team in Europe after they lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final. But, Rio Ferdinand denied the claims and said it was rude of Owen to speak like that in front of Real Madrid, who beat them in the final.

The former England striker has played well with Liverpool and Madrid, and he remains convinced the Reds are the top team in the blue continent, even though they finished runners-up at the bottom of the table. Manchester City in the Premier League and now Madrid in Europe.

After chasing four titles for months, Liverpool have completed a superb season as winners of the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Vinicius Junior be a differentiator in Paris, plus Thibaut Courtois who made several fine saves to prevent Liverpool and snatch a 1-0 win.

“I still think they are the best team in Europe, really,” said Owen, rating Liverpool as an expert on the club BT Sport.

“On another occasion, Liverpool’s name will be engraved on the trophy this time.

“The season they’ve had, I still think they’re a team to beat. Real Madrid got past them today, but you [Ferdinand] anyone knows, a one-off match is a one-off match, just like that. I still think they are the scariest team in Europe, and they don’t have the two big trophies this season to show, and that would be the biggest pill to swallow.”

Ferdinand, the former Manchester United captain, responded by saying: “How can you say they are the best team in Europe when they lost in the league, and they lost in the Champions League final?”

Ferdinand admitted Liverpool had been an “unbelievably attractive team”, but said: “You have to get big trophies to be called immediately the best team in Europe.

“I don’t think they can be considered that way, and I think it’s disrespectful for a team like Madrid to go and do what they have done.”
