Up To 8 Cases, These Are Facts About New Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 Subvariants That Have Entered Indonesia
Dream – The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has again reported new cases of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants that have entered Indonesia to 8, after the first 4 cases detected on June 4, 2022.
According to the Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, one patient who has not received the vaccine booster had moderate symptoms and the other seven patients had mild or no symptoms.
BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants, he said, triggered an increase in cases in a number of countries. However, this variant has a much lower rate of increase in cases, hospitalizations, and deaths compared to the initial emergence of the Omicron variant.
Even so, the government urges the public to remain vigilant and careful in dealing with these subvariants.
“Our results show that the peak of transmission of BA.4 and BA.5 variants is about one-third of the peak of Delta and Omicron, hospitalization cases are also one-third of Delta and Omicron hospitalization cases, while death cases are one-tenth of deaths in Delta and Omicron,” he said.
