1NEWS – Indonesian women’s singles badminton player, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung managed to break a crazy record after destroying the world number one athlete, Akane Yamaguchi.

Gregoria Mariska managed to overcome a tough challenge against Japanese player, Akane Yamguchi in the preliminary round of the BWF Super 750 Malaysia Open 2022 tournament.

Playing at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday (28/6), Gregoria managed to overthrow Akane through two straight games with twin scores, 21-14, 21-14 in 27 minutes.

This result also made Gregoria managed to break the record for the first time winning over Akane Yamaguchi since the 2018 Asian Games.

In addition, this is the second win for Gregoria from a total of 10 meetings against Akane Yamaguchi.

Responding to his victory, Gregoria said he was grateful to be able to play freely in the match.

However, the 22-year-old admits that his opponent has not been able to play optimally in the first game, so he can be more confident in the second game.
