Persib Bandung team captain, Achmad Jufriyanto, admitted that he was disappointed with the results achieved in the last 8 of the 2022 Presidential Cup Pre-season Tournament.

The reason is, in the match against PSS Sleman at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung Regency, Friday (01/07/22), the Maung Bandung squad had to admit the opponent’s advantage was 2-4 through a penalty shootout.

Previously, Persib had fallen behind through Boaz Salossa’s goal in the 53rd minute. Maung Bandung’s squad, only managed to make it 1-1 in 85 minutes through Marc Klok’s penalty kick.

The defeat made Bobotoh’s pride team fail to advance to the semifinals, because the last 8 of the 2022 President’s Cup Pre-season Tournament used a single match system.

“On behalf of the players, it’s a shame that we stopped in the quarter-finals because it was too much, with one more game we can go further into the semifinals and finals,” said Jupe, his nickname after the match.

The player who uses the number 16 jersey added that there are many lessons that can be drawn from the results obtained in the 2022 President’s Cup Pre-Season Tournament.

According to Jupe, by appearing in the 2022 President’s Cup Pre-season Tournament, the coaching team can find out the shortcomings of Maung Bandung’s squad, so that the 2022-2023 Liga 1 and 2022 Indonesian Cup competitions can be even better.

“But qodarullah the result is like this and maybe in the future after this we can prepare ourselves more in the League,” said Jupe.

“Because there will be much more important things ahead, there is the Indonesian Cup and the league and it is much more prestigious than this tournament,” added Jupe.

As a professional soccer player, failing to penetrate the semifinals is certainly very disappointing, because the target to be achieved is to win a good title in every event that is followed.

“Obviously, if the players are asked whether they are disappointed or not, of course they are disappointed because the responsibility is already here,” said Jupe.

Even so, the player who helped lead Persib to win the 2014 Indonesia Super League (ISL) title did not want to be disillusioned and will soon get up for the 2022-2023 Liga 1 competition.

“But we need to live in disappointment because in the future we learn to make more use of every match and there are more valuable ones for us,” said Jupe.

Persib in the preliminary round of Group C of the 2022 President’s Cup Pre-season Tournament, managed to come out as champions by collecting seven points.

These results were obtained by Bobotoh’s proud team after drawing with Bali United in the inaugural match, and conquering Persebaya Surabaya and Bhayangkara FC.

Meanwhile, PSS Sleman, was the runner-up in Group A. So, in the last 8 of the 2022 President’s Cup Pre-season Tournament, Persib, which was the winner of Group C, became the host.

Meanwhile, Persib Bandung coach, Robert Rene Alberts, welcomed the plan for the Indonesian Cup which will take place in August 2022.

According to the Dutch coach, Indonesia should have a football championship in addition to competitions like in other countries, especially Europe, so he is very enthusiastic about welcoming the Indonesian Cup.

“Yes, that’s good, this is good news for Indonesian football because there should be two competitions like that. There are domestic leagues and tournaments,” said Robert Alberts at Graha Persib, Jalan Sulanjana, Bandung City, Thursday (30/06/22).

Robert Alberts further added that ideally in Indonesia there would be no pre-season tournament and it would be better to focus on preparing for domestic competitions and tournaments such as the Indonesian Cup.

For information, the 2022 President’s Cup Pre-season Tournament is currently rolling, the event which is participated by 18 participating teams has entered the big 8 round.

“I’ve always said that in pre-season ideally not playing tournaments, more focused on building a team to compete in the league or FA Cup (domestic tournament),” said Robert Alberts.

“So hopefully we can start playing in the FA Cup in the regular phase and give the title whatever name it is, it could be the FA Cup President or something else,” said Robert Alberts.

Robert Alberts said that there were many benefits from holding the Indonesian Cup, because the participating teams from three levels of competition had the opportunity to show their quality.

So, it is not impossible if a team from a lower competitive level can beat a League 1 representative.
