German Bundesliga 2 club midfielder Hansa Rostock, Hanno Behrens, expressed his joy and farewell after he was officially announced to have moved to Persija Jakarta today.

Rostock management has announced the move of Behrens to Persija without mentioning the details of the transfer. However, rumors say Persija intends to redeem Behrens’ transfer of €200 thousand, or around Rp. 3 billion.

Behrens’ desire to strengthen Persija has been conveyed to coach Jens Hartel and club management. Behrens is now expressing his joy in starting a new adventure in Indonesia with Persija. This is the first statement that has come out of Behrens since the rumors to Persija surfaced.

“An opportunity has now opened up for me that you may never get again at my age. That’s why I decided to embark on an overseas adventure,” Behrens told Rostock’s official website.

During his time at Rostock since joining from FC Nurnberg last summer, Behrens has played in 29 games. The 32-year-old has contributed five goals and six assists for Rostock in all competitions.

“It was a very exciting season for me at Rostock with a sensational win. I always wear the Hansa jersey with pride and try to do my best on the pitch,” Behrens said.

“The support from the fans has been incredible. I will never forget the atmosphere at the Ostseestadion. I want to thank you for the time we spent together.”

“I want to thank the fans, the team, the coaching staff and all the staff from the bottom of my heart! I wish the club all the best in the future. I will always watch the team matches.”

On the other hand, Hartel feels sad to lose one of his best midfielders, considering Behrens is the second most scored player in the team, behind spearhead John Verhoek who scored 17 goals. Hartel praised the player.

“He is important to us, both in the dressing room with his personality, and on the pitch with his goals and assists,” Hartel said in an interview with the club’s official YouTube channel, quoted on the Ostsee Zeitung website.
