Crazy Ball – Manchester City, who just suffered a Community Shield defeat against Liverpool, are likely to be without key defender Aymeric Laporte until September following knee surgery in the summer.
The Spain international was not involved at the time The Citizens lost 3-1 to The Reds in their Community Shield clash, gave the reigning Premier League champions a bad start ahead of the start of the new 2022/2023 season which kicks off early next month.
The defeat also showed a leak in the Manchester City defense without Aymeric Laporte, forcing Pep Guardiola to play Chelsea defender Nathan Ake as a partner for Ruben Dias at the heart of his side’s defence.
According to news reported from sunsports, the Spain international played with a pain barrier in the last few games of last season to help The Citizens defend their Premier League title.
After the season ended, he eventually had to undergo surgery on his knee injury and is now out for some time before returning to full fitness. According to reports, he won’t be back until at least September.
Manager Pep Guardiola had already revealed about Aymeric Laporte’s injury before their game against Liverpool in the Community Shield, saying, “Laporte is injured. He underwent knee surgery after last season. He played the last two or three games with important injuries and put in an incredible effort.”
“He had surgery, so far he is doing very well but you have to be careful with his knee. I think August maybe he will just start to recover, but September I think maybe only then he will really start with us.”
