1NEWS, Bayern Munich started the new season by winning the 2022 German Super Cup. This success was obtained through a drama of eight goals in a 5-3 victory against RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena Stadium, Leipzig, Germany, Saturday (30/7) or early Sunday WIB.
This victory was also marked by the first goal by Munich’s biggest signing this summer, Sadio Mane. The Senegalese winger who was bought from Liverpool scored Liverpool’s second goal in the 31st minute.
Mane scored with an entertaining game. Quite a schematic from midfield with a through ball to Serge Gnabry who crossed the ball into the relatively empty position of Mane in front of the Leipzig goal.
Munich itself dominated by winning 3-0 only in the first 45 minutes. Jamal Musiala scored the first goal in the 14th minute, Mane 17 minutes later, and Benjamin Pavard swelled the Bundesliga champions’ coffers late in the first half.
Playing at home made Leipzig react through Marcel Halstenberg in the 59th minute. But Serge Gnabry again widened the advantage through his goal in the 66th minute.
Leipzig put real pressure on Munich in the final 15 minutes of normal time. Starting with Christopher Nkunku’s penalty in the 77th minute and substitute Dani Olmo’s goal for the score 3-4 in the 89th minute.
However, Munich is still Munich. Former Manchester City player, Leroy Sane, completed his team’s victory with the final goal in eight minutes of added time.
For Munich, this year’s Super Cup title is the eighth as well as a record in Germany. As for Leipzig, they got their first Super Cup match this time.
PSV beat Ajax
Meanwhile, PSV Eindhoven took control of Amsterdam by beating the city’s club, Ajax, to win the Dutch Super Cup which is now known as the Johan Cruijff Shield. Also with an eight-goal drama, Eindhoven beat Ajax 5-3 at the Johan Cruijff Arena Stadium.
PSV also retain the trophy they won from Ajax last season. They are also listed as a club with 13 trophies which is a record in the history of the Dutch Super Cup.
